Methodology

How Companion Cost evaluates pre-pay risk.

This site checks what can change between a free preview and a paid month. It is not a "best girlfriend" ranking, and it does not claim paid hands-on testing that has not happened.

Publisher and independence

One publisher, visible commercial links, no hidden testing claim.

Companion Cost publishes and maintains the site. App companies do not write, approve, or edit the conclusions. Some outbound buttons can earn commission, but commission does not decide whether an app appears, the source notes, the planning range, or the risk language.

Some links may be affiliate links. Scores do not depend on commission rate.

Evidence order

Facts, signals, and interpretation are separate layers.

  1. Current product evidence: official product, pricing, checkout, help, terms, privacy, and app-store pages.
  2. Public review signals: recurring complaints or praise categorized as questions to verify, not treated as settled facts.
  3. Operator observations: signed-in or review-account screens only when the page labels what was actually observed.
  4. Editorial planning ranges: low, expected, and high-risk estimates that model repeat spend but do not replace checkout.

Testing labels

What "checked" means on this site.

Official source checked

A public first-party or app-store page was opened and its date and limitation were recorded.

Review-account route checked

A supplied account was used only to inspect the labeled screen or policy route. This is not a paid checkout test.

Paid hands-on test

Not completed yet unless a future page explicitly states otherwise. No page may silently upgrade source research into experience.

Scoring boundary

Risk labels describe what needs verification.

Updates and corrections

Freshness is attached to the claim, not implied by a new page date.

App rows carry their own last-checked text and linked sources. A page can remain live while one price is marked unresolved. Material corrections should include the app, source URL, date checked, and the exact statement that changed; confirmed corrections are applied to the source registry, app record, and dependent pages together.

Methodology last updated: 2026-07-15.

Next checks

Do not stop at one page.

The real risk usually sits across price, tokens, cancellation, refund wording, privacy, and public signals. Use the next check that matches what still feels uncertain.
